This summer, high school students from all over New England participated in the Undersea Technology Apprenticeship Program (UTAP) at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport. 401 Tech Bridge is proud to support this hands-on skill building experience, that has h students working directly alongside engineers to solve real world problems.
The internship program has students designing and building an underwater vehicle that can complete missions in a real-world working environment. With the assistance of scientists and engineers, students are challenged to create an underwater vehicle with specific capabilities on a tight budget and timeline. Working in teams and relying on their creativity, students are tasked to create innovate solutions to overcome obstacles which test their vehicles operability.
Exposing students to the various engineering disciplines within NUWC and the defense sector, allows for students to be aware of the possibilities as they prepare for and select their future career paths. Developing tomorrows skilled and diverse future workforce is necessary for future national security and economic security.
