Identify technologies that provide remote assistance to technicians and emergency workers, in an effort to reduce cost and schedule delays.
- Connect mechanics with other personnel, supervisors, zone managers, engineers etc.
- Provided both audio and visual playback
- Annotation tooling for both users
- File sharing for support to share with users
- Universal device capability
- No recording capabilities on either end
- Large bandwidth (could be 200-500 users at any one given time)
Use cases include:
- Remote support for all deck plate workers – get 3D, interactive, real-time help from a supervisor, SME, or vendor, versus having to schedule and wait for in-person interactions that have significant cost and schedule impacts
- Production shop support – equipment/tool vendors can provide remote training, first-time use oversight, and troubleshooting support
- Interactive briefings and trainings – a supervisor with specific subject matter expertise who is not available (e.g., on TDY, out with COVID), can brief a crew via AR on how to repair a unique shop tool used for a unique job
- Positive component identification – deck plate workers can call back to the supervisor to verify correct component they are about to work, and supervisor can see what they’re seeing, eliminating costly and time-consuming rework
- Direct communication in emergency situations both audio and video – firefighters with AR glasses can enter the submarine and have additional info on their screen, and remote fire support personnel can see what they’re seeing and provide extra guidance
Technical Considerations:
- Ruggedized hardware/software as it will be used in an industrial environment would be beneficial
Deliverables:
Remote assistance application with large bandwidth capabilities (there could be 200-500 users at any one given time).
The end result is a fully functional remote assistance application that can be used on GFE and be implemented with limited training as an easily adaptable system.
