IN THE NEWS: 2 new R.I. innovation hubs to roll — in manufacturing, medicine

PROVIDENCE — Two more innovation hubs will soon open in Rhode Island, building on the links between universities and private industry to parlay research into new businesses.

Gov. Gina Raimondo announced the two new locations — one in Providence and a second split between Portsmouth and South Kingstown.

In 2018, Raimondo and David Dooley, president of the University of Rhode Island, announced the first round of innovation grants, funded by a $20-million bond in November 2016. The bond calls for academia and industry to create hubs that turn academic research into new commercial products, businesses and jobs.
