SBIR COORDINATION

Many of you have interacted with Lee Silvestre, who serves as the SBIR Coordinator for the Northeast Tech Bridge. Lee has been an integral part of the national Tech Bridge effort under NavalX since its inception. Her engagement with startup companies and her connection to Navy initiatives have made a significant impact since that time.

Lee’s employment will transition to SENEDIA starting on October 1st, but her role as Northeast Tech Bridge SBIR Coordinator will remain unchanged. We anticipate and plan to maintain the same level of excellent collaboration with Lee under our valued partner SENEDIA. We will continue to drive Navy initiatives forward with her exceptional commitment.

While her contact information is changing, her responsibilities from the Northeast Tech Bridge and her contributions to the 401 Tech Bridge will remain consistent as we strive to further enhance this ecosystem with significant growth potential.

Engineering, Robotics & Teamwork on the Agenda this Summer.

Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport hosts the Undersea Technology Apprentice Program (UTAP) for high school students, emphasizing engineering and teamwork. Participants work in teams, designing, building, and testing underwater remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) over two three-week sessions. The program focuses on social engineering, teaching students to collaborate effectively.
This year, more than 26 public and private high schools were represented. Most of the students attend schools in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, but schools as far away as New York, New Jersey, Texas, and California were also represented.
The final competition evaluates ROV performance in tasks like opening doors and using a compass. UTAP provides hands-on experience and potential career insights in engineering. The successful program, managed with support from 401 Tech Bridge, contributes to building future Navy engineers and scientists.
